Darrell R. Galloway

Dr. Darrell R. Galloway is an expert in the field of pathogenic microbiology (particularly bacterial toxins) and immunology and has specialized in the area of vaccinology. Galloway began his career at the Naval Medical Research Institute. Following four years of service at the research institute, Galloway accepted a tenure track appointment in the Department of Microbiology at The Ohio State University. Throughout his tenure at The Ohio State University, Galloway has served as a mentor for 12 doctoral students and taught numerous courses on infectious diseases, immunology and various aspects of molecular and general biology.
Dr. Galloway earned his undergraduate degree in microbiology in 1973 and his doctoral training in biochemistry from the University of California at Riverside in 1978. He completed postdoctoral studies in immunochemistry at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, La Jolla, Calif. as a National Cancer Institute Fellow in 1980.
In recognition of his scientific contributions to biodefense vaccine development, Dr. Galloway was awarded the Joel M. Dalrymple Award in 2004 and the Federal Laboratories Consortium
award in 2005. In addition, during his tenure at The Ohio State University, he was the recipient of a prestigious National Career Development award from the National Institute of Health. He is presently a Member of the National Academy of Science Institute of Medicine Microbial Forum Group and serves as a reviewer for numerous journals and organizations.

Galloway is responsible for the management and integration of all medical and non-medical chemical/biological science and technology efforts within the US Chemical and Biological Defense Program.
