Dr. Barbara B. Saunders-Price, PhD

Dr. Barbara B. Saunders-Price is an international leader in NBC Defense issues, with combined expertise in nuclear, biological and chemical defense issues and environmental chemistry, toxicology, radiation and nuclear chemistry and public health risk assessments. She received her PhD in Physical Chemistry at Harvard University and her BA from Hunter College in New York City. She currently holds a TS/NATO clearance.
Dr. Price has over twenty-five years of experience in the reactions of chemicals and nuclear products in the environment; in research, development, and assessment projects; and in the detection of chemicals and protection of human health and the environment. She co-founded the Journal of Medical Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Defense in 2001, a peer-reviewed international scientific journal and has been the editor and driving force for that journal. Dr. Price is familiar with many aspects of biochemistry, molecular biology and disease transmission, which she has learned as the biological warfare and biological terrorism threats have increased. She has written many articles in evaluation of the toxic chemical threat, environmental chemistry and biological and chemical defense. She has been a major contributor to the ASA Newsletter. She has specialized in worldwide environmental risk assessments. She has written risk assessments and contamination assessments dealing with metals and radioactive metals (Pu, Np, U) and organic chemicals from PCBs to dioxins, TCE, PAHs, pesticides, and polymer starting materials. She co-authored the book Ebola and Marburg Viruses: A View of Infection from the Electron Microscope. She is one of the originators for the ASA Newsletter and the CBMTS series of meetings and serves as the chair for most of the CBMTS meetings. This series of meetings has included 2500 senior scientists and professionals in NBC defense from over 80 countries.
